Portfolio Surgery - Susan from The Chase
Today I had a portfolio surgery from Susan from The Chase, as part of the D+AD portfolio sessions at Leeds College of Art.
It was partly a little bit of pot luck due to the organisation of D+AD, almost first come first serve and a random selection of professionals, to be assigned to, I ended up with the Chase, and I was very happy.
The meeting was short and sweet, I managed to get through my portfolio and we seemed to hit it off in a little discussion. The main things I took from the surgery was to have faith in your work, and reasoning why you make the decisions for your practice. I think she enjoyed the ideas I had, a little jealous of the facilities we have at LCA and the enthusiasm I had for what I had produced. I think if you are in the situation where you can speak one on one with a professional like that, you shouldn't waste it.
After the surgery, I fired a quick email across as a little thanks.

Cargo Collective
From recent sessions and tutorials concerning web presences, indexhibit has been a suggested direction to take. From initial attempts and headaches, I was suggested a different format- cargo collective.
Being a complete web novice, having cargo collective is a similar format to indexhibit but with webspace and editing included with the account, making it simple to add projects and documents with a little bit of flexibility in design. At the moment the URL is cargocollective.com/lukehallam which isn't as personal as I like, but i can upgrade with a fee to have a custom URL and more design with CSS and html coding, although might need help with that..

The new tactic.
Having a physical piece of graphic design I feel has a stronger effect than a flat screen piece, you understand the colour used, stock considered, and know it looks actually as it should instead of variations on screen. As a new tactic to get in touch with designers and agencies, I want to send mail-shot compositions aswell as email, just for another consideration, something more personal?
I created this piece over summer, and I feel it demonstrates itself with a number of skills + values I wish to adopt.
